On WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2nd, STUNNA kicks off a brand new month of broadcasts in 'THE GREENROOM' on BASSDRIVE Radio. During this week's installment, we're treated to a guest mix from burgeoning producer, DJ, and label head MOAKZ, as he makes his debut appearance on the program.
SOUTHAMPTON, UK-based musician MOAKZ (aka JON MOAKES) has been DJing and crate digging since his teens. Resident and promoter for the highly regarded OFFSHORE & TOAST events in SOUTHAMPTON during the mid-late '90s and early '00s, MOAKZ was also an OLDSKOOL HARDCORE resident for ADRENALIN, alongside playing at numerous other events and free parties during this same period. He subsequently co-produced and released several NU SKOOL BREAKS tracks and remixes under the pseudonym MOBIUS on APE RECORDS, DUSTED BREAKS, VIM RECORDS, and YELLOW FINGER.
Energised by the contemporary JUNGLE and ATMOSPHERIC sounds, MOAKZ returned in 2021 with a new style and several releases in quick succession which merge ATMOSPHERIC elements with timeless breaks to deliver a mix of both epic dancefloor JUNGLE and serene melodies. Soaring AMENS, space-age synths and rolling bass combine perfectly in his music and DJ sets which draw on both the classic and modern JUNGLE and ATMOSPHERIC sounds (from time to time, showcasing elements of OLDSKOOL HARDCORE and more mature LIQUID FUNK and AUTONOMIC vibes.
A prolific DRUM+BASS producer the past two years, with releases on labels such as OMNI MUSIC, LIQUID DROPS, DEFAULT RECORDINGS, and 1 MORE THING, MOAKZ found time this past APRIL to co-launch the CODENAME: RCRDS imprint (with a number of successful releases by the likes of SAM LINK, MINERAL, TRIDENT, COLD LEADER, JON TETLY, FLIPPER, NOTHING, OKEE, NonRev, MISSEN, ROME, FORTUNE, CHANCE, M-OCEAN, and MOAKZ himself) as well as CODENAME: AMEN (a SOUTHAMPTON-based event series focussing on everything under the modern and classic JUNGLE sound umbrella).
